If you’re reading this blog post, you probably want to know how to hone your photography skills without spending a fortune right? Well you’re in the right place!

Although I can’t teach you how to become a professional photographer, I CAN teach you how to see content creation opportunities in your everyday life - which is a SERIOUS game-changer, trust me my friend. If you follow these four tips, your photography skills and your Instagram grid will be on their way to perfection (well, almost perfect because nothing can ever be truly perfect 😉).

Keep scrolling to hear all about my top four tips for taking Instagram-worthy photos every single day with ease!

1. become aware of the world around you

Photo-worthy moments are happening every hour of everyday, I promise - we just need to open our eyes to see them and be ready to whip out our phone to capture them.

Simply start training yourself notice the world (especially the small details) around you and be on the lookout for people, places, things and moments that might make a great post.

Look for the extraordinary in the ordinary

I know a lot of us are still stuck inside so traveling to cool and interesting places isn’t really a thing right now, but that doesn’t mean we’re not surrounded by content creation opportunities all around us! Try looking at certain objects or areas in your home from a different perspective or try moving something to a new place - are you seeing something there that you didn’t before?

This is what finding the extraordinary in the ordinary is all about, and it doesn’t have to be hard!

2. Take way too many photos

Snap away, my friend! Your digital photos don't cost you a thing - and I'd rather you have too many photos to choose from (you can always delete them later 😉) than be beating yourself up because your one perfect shot ended up being blurry.

Plus, taking multiple photos of the same thing means you can create various posts with a similar "vibe" over time (without posting the exact same photo) and your grid will feel more cohesive (without trying.)

TIP: Your first photo probably won’t be the winner.

As you’re taking photos of something, remember to take it from different angles to capture different lighting and areas of the subject. Seriously, snap away! Take 50 photos of the same thing if you want! Personally, I love going through photos so you might find it fun too!

3. switch up your angles & crops

Most of my favorite photos give us a view of our ordinary world from a unique perspective. It’s funny because my boyfriend always laughs at me because when I'm taking photos, I'm doing something silly like crouching down way too far, standing on a chair I probably shouldn’t be standing on, getting all up in my subject’s business, backing away and giving myself a double chin to use the wide angle lens… you get the picture 🤣

I may look silly, but hey - at least I’m taking advantage of every single content creation opportunity I set my sights on!

You’ll have a cohesive grid by barely trying!

By taking multiple photos of the same thing or similar things, you can post about that thing or experience more than one, which directly ties into the concept of post stacking!

If you’re sitting there asking yourself, “Okay Kins, what the heck is post stacking?” check out this episode of the Feel Good Social podcast where I break it all down for you! 🎙

4. pay attention to the lighting

Natural lighting is the best for taking crisp, beautiful and easily editable shots - so if you can, try to use it to your advantage as much as possible.

If you're inside, try to capture the moment in front of a window (or at least open as many curtains as you can.) I'll often turn off the lights, so I don't get a weird lightbulb glare.

give yourself permission to make mistakes.

You won’t be great at this right off the bat my friend, and that’s okay! You simply need to give yourself permission to make mistakes and take those bad photos (it’s okay, no one will see them but you)!
